Edinburgh GE 2019

Gordon travelled to Edinburgh to campaign in the 2017 and 2019 general elections. Recommending others to get involved, Gordon said ‘participating in real canvassing, supporting the election day activity and the count puts politics into perspective and makes everything a little more real. It’s one thing knowing people are moving from no to yes, quite another to hear it on the doorstep.’

Asked about how easy it was as a Londoner to get involved, Gordon replied ‘you’ll be surprised how easy it is. Even one extra person for a couple of days can make a big difference to canvassing, so you’ll be welcomed by the local branch. And, I’ve never had an unpleasant doorstep confrontation – even people who are going to vote against the SNP tend to be polite.’

Gordon also attended the ‘All Under One Banner’ marches in 2018 and 2019, and found them enjoyable: ‘they provide an opportunity to meet other people, to hear other views and, important for members living outside Scotland, to build up enthusiasm and feel part of a mass movement
